Sept 2nd saw the first day of our Annual BONSAI BASH. This is a long running free bonsai event, the only one of its kind in the UK. Held at Greenwood Bonsai Studio over 2 days.

It consists of Specimen bonsai demonstrations, Specimen bonsai exhibition displaying trees from Corin's personal bonsai collection. As well as bonsai sales, bargain bonsai pot area and refreshments.

Give me a few more days, and photos and details from the Sunday will be on my blog. Please check back soon !

Sat 2nd September.

With, good weather we had a great turnout at this years event. It was much busier than previous year, with bonsai enthusiasts travelling from all corners of the UK to come and enjoy our bonsai weekend.

I had selected a Cedrus Libanii (Cedar of Lebanon) as a demo tree for the saturday. I purchased it in Jan, and had been dying to work on it. It had already had some initial styling, although this was many years ago. Before the demo, this is the tree. -

I have been growing this since January 2017, feeding it with naruko every month, to get good healthy growth on it prior to styling. Cedars are a personal favourite of mine. I think they are under used as bonsai, and often at shows you don't see any of them.

Here's the same tree after my styling work. Around 3 hours was spent doing this. I removed of 2 lower left hand branches, one was weak, the other was right on the inside of a curve. By removing them and wiring others down to fill in, gives the tree better structure. An old stub that had been left on the trunk was carved back, to give better flow on the right hand side of the trunk.

Base was tidied, up and mossed, the rock at the base has some filler (concrete) along one side, so with a miniature fern and mosses I managed to cover it up so it is not noticeable.

100's of people attended during the event, we had booked good weather especially !

Removal of lower branches, for this I had bought a new Mini Bosch Chainsaw, a man can't have too many tools !

After working on this Cedar, which was done just after lunchtime, I started working on a Blue Cedar, so ended up styling 2 trees on the Saturday.

Blue Cedar half way through demonstration. There was an area of bark damage already on the trunk (most probably from when it had been dug from the field). This was lengthened into a shari section of deadwood. Cedars are very flexible, but require quite a lot of wiring to get them into shape.

Give me a few more days, and photos and details from the Sunday will be on my blog. Please check back soon !
